I grew up as a very ardent democrat. As time has passed, my politics have changed and I now identify as a socialist. This is one of the many reasons that I am so excited that Charlotte is running! She is a candidate where I don’t have to compromise or hold my nose to vote. She is for working people, she is for equity and for creating new, just systems that will make Somerville a better city for everyone. Charlotte is a wonderful listener, a dedicated activist and I know that these qualities will help her respond to the needs of the people of Somerville. We need Charlotte and I’m thrilled to be supporting her!

I’m supporting Charlotte’s campaign for city council as a monthly donor and volunteer because I believe this campaign isn’t just about an electoral win, it’s about strengthening our local people-powered movements. It’s about expanding our collective imagination of what’s possible here in with a majority socialist city council. Charlotte knows that to build solutions that transform our city, we must center those most impacted by systems of violence — that’s why she’s running bring our voices to city hall and win big for our movements. I’m inspired to volunteer not only because Charlotte is a great friend and organizer, but also because of how this campaign focuses on bringing in folks traditionally cut out of electoral campaigns. This campaign is about building up leaders and deepening relationships between community members to organize for justice beyond November. I hope you’ll join me for the long haul!

I've lived in Somerville for seven years and I'm ready for a city council that does more than talk about progressive ideas. I know Somerville can set an example for cities across the country on issues like dramatically decreasing police funding, increasing access to housing, and treating the climate crisis with genuine urgency. To do so, we need leaders who aren't afraid to stand up to the interests of capital and who will be accountable to the movement. I absolutely believe Charlotte will be this kind of leader and it's an honor to work on her campaign.

As a Somerville resident of nearly a decade and as a union organizer who believes in building power from below, I’m so inspired by the vision and practices that Charlotte is bringing to this campaign. We need socialists and abolitionists in government who can support our movements for justice from the inside, and Charlotte is the ideal candidate to do so! Somerville will be a healthier, safer, and more sustainable home for all of us with a majority socialist city council at the helm, and I can’t wait to see Charlotte on it.

Over the last year or so, as I’ve begun to understand the inner workings of Somerville politics, Charlotte has been a caring guide and compassionate resource whenever I had questions or needed help. Her organizing style is one that’s intentionally inclusive and brings as many people into the work as possible. I believe Charlotte will bring this type of leadership to city hall, and I’m inspired by her commitment to engage and empower our neighbors who have been excluded from our political processes.

I’ve been organizing with and for people over profits in Union Square for years. The power dynamic in Somerville is skewed to benefit developers at a direct negative impact to quality of life, dignity, and material reality for Somerville residents at work and home, and our city’s whole ecology. Charlotte gets it. She knows the work we do with our neighbors: multifaceted actions, bureaucratic slogs, and love of community that go into organizing here. Charlotte builds coalitions for collective power and I know she will help use and make systems on the city level more accountable, democratic, accessible, and inspirational.

In the time I’ve known Charlotte, I’ve been impressed by her ability to bring activists, organizers, and community members together to make real change.
Charlotte understands the fluidity of our roles in social justice movements, and that every contribution is important. She’s ready to jump in wherever she’s needed: leading and co-creating organizing strategies, phone banking and texting, holding a sign, or bringing delicious home baked goods to her fellow organizers to make sure we’re fed and don’t burn out.
Now, I’m excited to support her as she steps into her role as candidate for Somerville City Councilor at Large. I have no doubt she’ll continue to center movement voices and visions in all of her work. As a friend and as an organizer, I’m proud to volunteer on her campaign.

I’m supporting Charlotte because she’s a fierce fighter for the common good and a skilled organizer rooted in social movements. As a public school teacher and union member, I first met Charlotte through her leadership of the Massachusetts Education Justice Alliance. I was so impressed by her ability to unite parents, students, educators, and unions into a powerful force to fight for public education and social justice in our state. In the years since, as I got to know Charlotte better as an organizer and neighbor, my trust in her commitment to the common good, her integrity, and the skills and experience she brings to this work has only grown. I’m volunteering for Charlotte’s campaign because she has the vision we need to make Somerville a city that works for all of us and a proven willingness to fight against big money and powerful interests to make it happen.

This is a potentially transformational election year for the City of Somerville, with an open mayoral seat and five of eleven incumbent City Councilors not seeking reelection. Charlotte has the experience, the values, and the vision to meet this pivotal moment, and I’m supporting her campaign because she is part of a movement fighting for bold, necessary solutions that actually meet the scale of the immense and urgent crises facing our city and its residents. We must end the housing crisis, pass a municipal Green New Deal, make public transit free, achieve real public safety, and invest in public goods. When we fight, we win, and I’m proud to be fighting alongside Charlotte for the better Somerville I know is possible.
