Ayanna Pressley, US Congresswoman
Throughout her life, Charlotte Kelly has followed the work -- the work of advancing justice and equity. From electoral organizing to leading the Massachusetts Education Justice Alliance, Charlotte has invested her time, her energy, and her sweat equity in building grassroots power and community. As a Somerville City Councilor At-Large, I know Charlotte will continue that commitment to lift up proximate voices and find effective, inclusive solutions. I'm proud to endorse her campaign.
Ben Ewen-Campen, Somerville City Councilor
I'm thrilled to endorse Charlotte Kelly for City Councilor At-Large. Charlotte is the real deal: an experienced leader and collaborator, with policy chops and organizing expertise, and with deep roots in our community. She is passionate about helping people and listening, and working with those who are often left out of policy discussions. I couldn't be happier that she's running, and I ask you to join me in voting for Charlotte this November.
Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler, Cambridge City Councilor
Charlotte has a deep commitment to housing justice and public goods like education and public transit, and she's demonstrated that commitment as an organizer and as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Education Justice Alliance. She'll be a bold and transformative leader on the Somerville City Council who is deeply prepared for the work at hand.
Mike Connolly, Massachusetts State Representative
From her groundbreaking effort organizing for educational equity that culminated in passage of the Student Opportunity Act, to her work as Field Director on Senator Jehlen's re-election campaign, it's clear that Charlotte Kelly is incredibly well prepared to represent all Somerville residents. I'm very proud to stand with her and endorse her campaign for City Councilor At-Large!
JT Scott, Somerville City Councilor
Many of the issues facing Somerville can't be tackled at the local level alone. Charlotte Kelly's work as an organizer fighting for education justice has shown that she knows how to work at the state level to create change while building a movement here at home. Her broad support from environmental groups and her understanding of the importance of a strengthened working class shows that she's the kind of leader who can help build a stronger, more prosperous Somerville for everyone. I'm excited to cast one of my At-Large votes for Charlotte Kelly, and ask that you join me in supporting her.
Zac Bears, Medford City Councilor
Charlotte's leadership has won real change for working people across Massachusetts. Her experience building movements and demanding the bold, transformative solutions this moment in history demands will serve Somerville well. Charlotte will work directly with working people to create the better future we all deserve. Vote for Charlotte Kelly for Somerville City Council on November 2nd!
Matt McLaughlin, Somerville City Councilor
I’ve watched Charlotte become a true leader in the progressive movement. Charlotte became the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Education Justice Alliance, at 23 years old after years of fighting for education justice. She currently works for the American Federation of Teachers where she organizes for fair contracts with educators across Massachusetts. She is a leader that other people just starting out in local politics look to for guidance. I am fully confident that if elected Charlotte will go beyond the political rhetoric and do the hard work needed to ensure this city remains one of the most progressive cities in America.
Mark Niedergang, Somerville City Councilor
Charlotte has a lot of experience as a political organizer, at a variety of levels. She was Executive Director of the Massachusetts Education Justice Alliance, the organization that brought thousands of people together and successfully advocated for a $1.5 billion increase in state public school funding. These funds will make the biggest difference in school districts that serve the poorest and most disadvantaged children.
Charlotte has a lifelong history and understanding of our City, the different cultures here, and the challenges we face. Ten years ago, one could say this about most candidates for public office in Somerville. Now, many candidates haven’t even lived here for 10 years. While I would never vote for a candidate just because they are a “lifelong Somerville resident,” I do think it is valuable to have elected officials with extensive lived experience and relationships in Somerville.
Our campaign has pledged to reject money from fossil fuel executives, healthcare lobbyists, the charter school industry, real estate developers, and police unions.
